IN MEMORY OF OUR FOUNDER AND COACH OF OVER 35 YEARS: Coach Mary Rose

Mary Rose was a legend in her own right. Mary once starred alongside movie legend Esther Williams in the film “Easy to Love.” A former synchronized swimmer herself, she was internationally known, toured the world as a member of the International Water Follies and was among the first mermaids at Weeki Wachee Springs. She was the founder and head coach of the Orlando Loreleis Synchronized Swim Team until her passing in November 2009, where she produced a number of nationally recognized champions over the years. She served as the synchronized swimming sport director for the Florida's Sunshine State Games since its inception in 1980. During her coaching career, she was recognized with a Governor's Sports Leadership award, an award from the Synchronized Swimming Hall of Fame and induction into the Central Florida Sports Hall of Fame. Her past swimmers remember her often as their “second mother” but more importantly as a life coach. What she had to offer to blossoming swimmers was something so vitally important to swimmers in their youth. It was more than just learning synchronized swimming elements and routines: her swimmers learned life lessons, etiquette and strength that carried them into success as adults. We will always remember her smile and miss her presence by the side of the pool.
